Detroit's three automakers and the union representing hourly-paid workers at U.S. companies are in the final hours of being able to reach new union agreements before the current coordinated strike spreads to other plants.
Last week the UW launched unprecedented simultaneous strikes at a General Motors, Ford and Stellantis assembly plant, but analysts predict that any broader strike will include plants that build highly profitable pickups such as Ford's F-150, GM's Silverado and Stellantis' Ram.
About 12,700 workers went on strike at plants in Missouri, Michigan and Ohio, which produce the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler and Chevrolet Colorado, among other popular models. Uaw President Shawn Fain warned that another 146,000 union members working at the three Detroit factories will join them if no new agreements are reached before Friday noon (6 p.m. Italian time).
