Happy Easter! Here's a different take on the classic chocolate egg... 🦋🥚Many butterflies and moths lay their eggs on the food plant for the caterpillar, providing a ready meal for their offspring when they hatch.Later this month you should be able to sniff out Orange-tip eggs beneath the flower heads of Cuckooflower, Garlic Mustard and Honesty. Look for tiny spindle-shaped ovum that turn bright orange a few days after they are laid!Find out which caterpillar food plants you can add to your #WildSpace 👉 https://wild-spaces.co.uk/📷: Orange-tip - James Weightman

Not your average egg cosy! 🥚The nationally scarce Small Eggar (Eriogaster lanestris) moth mainly lays its eggs on Blackthorn and Hawthorn. The females have a tuft of grey hairs at the end of the abdomen which they use to cover the egg batches, protecting them from any potential predators. The caterpillars can be found living together in webs from April to July before they overwinter as pupae, sometimes spending two or three winters in the cocoon. 🐛📷: Bob Eade#MothsMatter
