Should you use brown sugar in brownies? ›

Getting the perfect crust for you means choosing a recipe with just the right proportions of granulated and brown sugars. More brown sugar leads to dense brownies with incredible depth of flavor, but the additional moisture can cause their upper crust to be more solid than delicate as a result.

What makes brownies fudgy instead of cakey? ›

Fudgy brownies have a higher fat-to-flour ratio than cakey ones. So add more fat—in this case, butter and chocolate. A cakey batch has more flour and relies on baking powder for leavening. The amount of sugar and eggs does not change whether you're going fudgy or cakey.

Should brownies be served hot or cold? ›

Can be eaten hot or cold. To heat: remove all packaging and place in a preheated oven set to 150 degrees for 15 minutes, or until warm. Empty sauce into a pan and heat until warm.

The brownies will continue to set as they cool. This recipe must be served after they've cooled to room temperature completely. In fact, they solidify into even more fudgy brownie bits if you chill them in the fridge before slicing and serving.

How to fancy up boxed brownie mix? ›

Almonds, walnuts, peanuts, cocoa nibs… adding a little textural crunch elevates your brownies from blah to bomb. Mix your crunchy bits into the batter or sprinkle on top to make your boxed brownies look even prettier. Just make sure you're using raw nuts and not the pre-salted ones!

What is the best thing to add to brownies? ›

All the mix-ins

Experiment with pretzels, candy, or even potato chips (trust me, the salty crunch really is so good here) to add an extra boost of flavor and a crunchy texture. For a really fun addition that adds a ton of color, stir some strawberries or blueberries into the batter.

What can I add to brownie mix to make it better? ›

Add a teaspoon of instant coffee or espresso powder. Throw in a handful of nuts—pecans, walnuts, macadamia, whatever you have on hand. Scoop in a palmful of dried or frozen fruit. Add an extra splash of the top-shelf vanilla extract, or a dab of vanilla paste, or a dash of vanilla powder, to the batter.

What happens if I use brown sugar instead of white in brownies? ›

The sweetness level will be the same, but the brown sugar may change the texture of your baked goods. You'll likely notice a more robust flavor, and the finished baked goods' color may also be darker. These color, flavor, and texture alterations come from how brown sugar is made.

Can I use granulated sugar instead of caster sugar in brownies? ›

Granulated sugar will usually work just fine as a caster sugar alternative. Substitute on a 1:1 ratio (if your recipe calls for a cup of caster sugar, use a cup of granulated sugar).

What happens if you use white sugar instead of brown sugar in brownies? ›

Brown sugar adds a dense chewiness to certain types of baked goods like cookies. When brown sugar is replaced with white sugar, you may end up with a slightly crispier result. Still, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. White sugar can be used to replace brown sugar, producing only slight changes in texture and flavor.

Are my brownies fudgy or raw? ›

If you insert a cake tester into the centre of the brownies pan it should come out with some damp crumbs attached. If the tester has raw batter on then bake for another 2-3 minutes and test again. Brownies go very quickly from being fudgy to cakey, so if in doubt start checking them slightly early.

Why are they called S * * * * * brownies? ›

The Londoner describes why they called them "slu*tty brownies" perfectly: "they're oh so easy, and more than a little bit filthy." Just as simple as I would've imagined. They are as easy to make as they are messy to eat. If you look up slu*tty Brownies on Pinterest there are thousands of recipes listed.

What's the difference between fudge and fudge cake? ›

A fudge cake is a chocolate cake, which, despite its name, does not contain fudge. It instead seeks to mirror the taste of chocolate fudge. It is commonly eaten at celebrations, parties, or gatherings.

What is the meaning of fudge brownie? ›

Fudgy Brownies
